Welcome to the EZJM
Welcome to the EZJM
The cantor's moving solo, romantic choral movements, organ sounds, spanning into opera and the concert hall – all of this and more is the music of the synagogue, which is so diverse and reflects the varied history of Jewry.
The European Centre for Jewish Music is an institute at the Hanover University of Music and Drama. Here in Hanover, we present Jewish liturgical music in concerts and exhibitions, we bring together scientists, publish music, scientific papers and CDs, and we work with soloists and ensembles to make the musical traditions of the synagogue our own.
Preserving and Imparting – we intend to increase our commitment to these tasks in the future, by extending our research and teaching, and having more public events.
Get to know our work on the following pages. We sincerely invite you to experience the music of the synagogue personally during one of our events, and we hope to have aroused your interest in what we do.
Yours,
Professor Andor Izsák
Principal of the European Centre for Jewish Music
